India Program

Anjini Kochar, Director

Since its inception, SCID's research on India and its interaction with Indian policymakers have grown significantly. Starting with a small core comprising program coordinators, Professor T. N. Srinivasan (SCID senior fellow), Nicholas Hope (SCID director), and Anjini Kochar (SCID senior research scholar), SCID has succeeded in attracting some of Stanford's best economists to work on India and to participate actively in SCID's programs. Indeed, SCID's success largely reflects its core strength: the very high caliber of SCID faculty and scholars. Recognizing that successful policy research on India requires strong collaborations with governments and research institutions in India, SCID has, from the start, developed and nurtured collaborations with several of India's foremost academic institutions and scholars. SCID's success derives in no small part from its many supporters and friends in India, who actively support SCID through their participation in its annual and mirror conferences in India. SCID conferences bring together researchers, policymakers, and business and community leaders to debate the government of India's economic reforms. SCID also supports a visitor program, which has brought many of India's foremost policy leaders to the Stanford campus.
