SCID encourages policy-relevant research by bringing academics into contact with policy-makers. To this end, SCID (formerly CREDPR-Center for Economic Development and Policy Research) sponsors visits and lectures by academics and government officials who are intimately acquainted with the challenges of policy reform.

SCID Distinguished Lecturers included:

  • Duck-Koo Chung, Director, Research Center for International Finance, Seoul National University, Reflections on the Korean Financial Crisis: Historical Perspective and Implications for the Future of Asia.

  • Dr. Rafiq Dossani, Senior Research Scholar, A/PARC, presented: Creating a Network: Why Indian and Chinese Engineers Succeed in Silicon Valley.

  • Johannes Linn, World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia, Progress in Transition: Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union after a Decade of Reform and Stabilizing Central Asia.

In 2000, SCID Distinguished Lecturers included:
  • Dr. Rolf Luders, Professor of Economics of Cuadernos de Economia at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, Economic Policy Reforms in Chile.

  • Dr. Il Sakong, President and CEO of the Institute for Global Economics, Causes and Responses to Korea’s Financial Crisis.

  • Dr. Francisco Gil Diaz, currently Mexican Finance Minister, Banking Regulation and Monetary Policy in Mexico.

In 1999, three visitors with distinguished records in policy-making, as well as in academic life spoke on the topics indicated. They were:

  • Dr. Gustavo Franco, Professor, Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, and Former Governor, Central Bank of Brazil, Economic Policy Reform in Brazil.

  • Dr. Shangquan Gao, Professor, Beijing University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University and former Vice-Minister, State Commission for Restructuring the Economic Systems and Head, Economic Systems Reform Office of the State Council, Reforming China's State-owned Enterprises.
