India Conference 2008

The conference featured some innovations. The first was a televised lunch panel, hosted by one of India's best known television news personalities, Ms. Barkha Dutt of NDTV. The panel focused on the topic of India's Image Abroad, and included SCID's principal supporter Mr. Kanwal Rekhi, SCID Director Nicholas Hope, Professor T.N. Srinivasan, Mr. George Scalise, President, SIA, and others. The television show was subsequently broadcast in India and generated widespread publicity for SCID in India.

A second innovation, jointly organized by SCID and the Center for South Asia at Stanford, was a student conference held on June 4 prior to the commencement of the main conference. It featured research projects of Stanford students intended to improve economic conditions in India. The student conference was intended to enhance the exposure of students to policy makers and present their research. Topics covered included projects to enhance literacy and school quality, reduce infant mortality and address HIV. The exposure to policy makers allowed students to solicit government support for their projects.
